Open Meetings Act, HB 698 closed the loophole that allowed government to conduct business behind closed doors. Rick Weldon worked to pass legislation that mandated the same requirements when government operates an executive function as an administrative function.
Rick Weldon opened government’s doors so that Urbana citizens could intervene late in a new transmission corridor application and also have 90 days to come up to speed and effectively participate.
Result: First time in Maryland’s PPRP history – sided with citizens and recommended denial
Obtained PSC support for public outreach prior to application for power plant/transmission lines

Road Safety in Urbana – guided concerned parents through government’s process so that they could collaborate with business and government in planning that jeopardized children’s safety.
Result:
Developer and State Highway designed separate road to keep business traffic out of neighborhood streets
